I wanted to create a chaise longue not for the sake of creating it.
Very often imagining a person lying on the Le Corbusier LC4 evokes me a feeling of loneliness! … I’ve always thought that such an object, I am the first who can’t live without, was more beautiful to stare rather than to make use of it …
So why not turning it into two objects, with the idea to keep it as divertissement without removing the possibility of using it in a different manner?
Two chaises longue, each one stuck into the other, embracing each other and especially opposite one another, so to talk facing each other.
As a TAO, where the YANG (positive principle – light -) and the YIN (negative principle – dark -), complementary elements of differentiation, are characterized by two different skin colors. Two objects completely coated in leather, a sort of skin that makes them equal but in the same moment different, thanks to their different colors, two objects becoming one.
It works like two lovers: coupled / uncoupled
It’s possible to stay together while reading the same book, together reading two different books, together in the same time relaxing and chatting, or relaxing in the freedom to keep a grudge against each other! You can be together, though dreaming of an ideal partner.
Splitting is possible … it’s enough to uncouple them ! They turn into two chaises longue moving where you want … to watch TV in the living room while the other one keeps on reading … or to pretend to watch TV while you consider on how to make peace!
An object that in one and/or two parts … takes part in our daily lives.
